Book One of “The Goddess’s Man” Series
The Story
THE GODDESS’S MAN is a dark fantasy at 93169 words. At long last, a prophecy is fulfilled: Mae, a skilled worker, learns that she is a goddess when she defiantly calls for a god of her own. Separate, the goddess and her god-man are powerless nothings in the vastness of history and heaven, but together they will tear down heaven and earth. Set four hundred years in the future, the epic romance takes place in Rivertown, a city thrown away by a distant civilization where the rich live in bubbles of unimaginable resources and hidden technology.
Adam, Mae’s god-man, splits off from the infinite to pursue this human goddess’s affection as a human and fledgling god. Mae is fueled by two deep struggles: the slow grief of her father’s dementia and a justified rage in the face of her people’s conditions. The stakes rise significantly when their attempts to assert power result in droughts, disease, and upheaval across the community. Opposed by “All Father,” the god of gods, Adam and Mae resist human and heavenly attempts to maintain the oppressive order and put them both back in their low position.
The epilogue shows that the thoughts-in-his-head gods who haunted Adam throughout the book had manifested physical bodies much like his. In her final journal entry of the novel, Mae writes about the new objects of their shared fear: a moment of pure mindful joy in which they held each other, their fears melted away, and he said to her, “All we have is time and each other.”

The Goddess’s Man (93000 words) will remind readers of Justin Cronin’s “The Passage” series. The novel blends the theological themes of David Bentley Hart and the sacred texts of eastern religion with mental health themes from Richard C. Schwartz’s No Bad Parts, Ronald Fairbairn and Melanie Klein’s work on attachment and psychological safety. The trilogy’s first two are complete in draft and the third is estimated to be complete by the end of the calendar year. I am seeking representation for the first book in the series.
